Gone To The Dogs were at Newcastle last week but they are soon back live at Hove for the Regency and Sussex Cup on Saturday, writes Peter Walker.
Both finals have odds-on favourites so is it ‘all over bar the shouting?’ It certainly isn’t, although admittedly they boast the best form up to now and their prices consequently reflect this.
However, you only have to look back a few weeks ago when Garfiney Blaze ran at Sheffield on 6th July and came second at odds of 12 to 1 on!
There were mitigating circumstances, specifically, he’d never raced or trialled at the track before the ‘Super Stayers’ race over the 720m distance.
That isn’t the case at the coastal venue, but we shall soon know the outcome courtesy of YouTube’s brilliant coverage on the night.
Coral Sussex Cup
Since bowing out of the Derby second round at Towcester, Proper Heiress has come back to his best after a well-earned short break.
He got the better of Chelms Bear (formerly Barntick Bear) who to his credit ran on late to only go down by 1¾ lengths on the line.
Slick Sentinel is a sole wide seed, and even though he was picked up by Queen Shakira in his semi-final, he’s sure to be in the mix at the business end.
Quill Quids finished in front of Ower Mystery after a slow start but have quite a bit to find on the clock so will be tough to finish in the first three.
If you were able to back Proper Heiress ante post at an early 11/4 price, you’re in the box seat. If not, a viable option of backing a combination tricast on traps 2, 4 and 6 looks worth a dabble.
Premier Greyhound Racing Regency
The now odds-on chance and early favourite Mongys Wild was best-priced 11/10 before the heats and is difficult to oppose.
The only ‘Achilles heel’ is his relatively slow break, but in some ways has worked to his advantage. He avoids trouble early on and shown enough track-craft to get past the front-runners when it matters.
The value has now diminished at 4/9 so if he was to get held up, the progressive six-bend runner Roman Empire each-way has to be the call.
He was pipped on the line by Art Riddler last time out but expect him to confirm all previous form and give Mongys Wild a run for his money.
