Sunday semi set to be ‘One of the races of the year’

Ricky Holloway believes Sunday’s second semi-final of the Ladbrokes Kent Leger at Crayford is one of the races of the year.

Ricky Holloway believes Sunday’s second semi-final of the Ladbrokes Kent Leger at Crayford is one of the races of the year.

Holloway’s Golden Jacket winner Dazl Rolex (pictured) lines up as one of four first round winners of the Category One competition over 714m – including litter sister Razldazl Amanda – and the Crayford-based handler cannot wait to see how it unfolds.

“It has everything and looks a brilliant race which would do credit to the final,” he said, given the Holloway pair are joined by fellow heat winners Coonough Crow and Ballymac Taylor – with defending champion Low Pressure also in for good measure.

Trained by Holloway for Tony Brealey, Roger Cearns and his breeder Dolores Ruth, Dazl Rolex landed the Time Greyhound Nutrition Greyhound of the Month (pictured) in February for his big-priced PGR Golden Jacket victory.

Sunday’s victory means he is one step closer to achieving the unique feat of winning both the Golden Jacket and the Kent St Leger – Jimmy Fenwick’s Bellmore Sally went close last year before being edged out by Low Pressure in the £10,000 decider.

Holloway said: “We gave him some time off after the Golden Jacket and seriously considered the Derby with him. He’s got a lot of speed and obviously has the stamina, but in the end just felt we’d play to his strengths with the Kent St Leger.

“He’ll come on for Sunday’s run for sure and, fingers crossed, qualifies for the final after which we’ll likely look at the Regency at Hove with him.”
