How does it feel to be a racing greyhound owner?

To me, greyhound racing is truly like no other sport out there. And, being an owner is something else!

To some people it’s just 6 dogs running round in a circle and whoever is in front at the first bend wins. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

It is a heart pounding, hold your breath sport. Hearing the bell go, the hare approaching, the traps.. LIDS UP AND AWAY!

The speed of the dogs getting out of the boxes is mind blowing, it is truly amazing to watch.

I advise anyone that hasn’t been greyhound racing to go. Once you truly see the speed they have into bends and the way they manoeuvre around each other you will see this is a true spectacle.

Watching a greyhound race is one thing, but watching it as an owner of a greyhound is a different story!

You have the build up to the race day beforehand. This could be studying the race, checking out the other racers, which dogs prefer which traps and comparing times.

The day of the race…wow! What a feeling. It’s a mix of emotions from complete nervousness to an absolute buzz when it’s close to racing time. You’re watching as the hare comes around, the traps open and your dog pings out of the boxes to lead!

There’s no feeling like watching your own greyhound race and win. It’s something we will always cherish and be ever so proud of.

Our dogs mean the world to us, just seeing them on and off the track is everything. They love a new toy and plenty of treats on a Sunday!
