Quadruple for Dazzling Holloway as he dominates Round 1 of the Ladbrokes Gold Collar at Crayford

Ricky Holloway won 2 out of the 6 Ladbrokes Gold Collar heats at Crayford today with greyhounds from the same litter. With four winners on the card, Holloway’s quadruple showed that the hurdles specialist is just as adept a trainer on the flat as he is over the jumps.

Heat 1

In Heat 1, Razldazl Amanda popped out quickly to seize the initiative as favourite, Aayamza Sydney struggled to match her for early pace and was crowded going into the first turn. Amanda, a November 21 bitch by Superior Panama out of Razldazl Mya, powered on in front as Havana Top Note recovered from missing the break in Trap 1 to finish 2nd ahead of the rallying Aayamza Sydney who had little luck in running. This was to be the fastest of the 6 heats.

Trap 4-1-2 Razldazl Amanda (33.42) 16/1, Havana Top Note 4/1, Aayamza Sydney 2/5F

Heat 2

Havana Lover made no mistake in Heat 2 and fully justified her lean starting price. Trapping smartly out of Trap 6, matched the blue jacketed blue dog, Caumrie Lemon, to the turn before running around the outside of Tony Collet’s Central Park raider. Ricky Holloway’s Dazyl Omega stuck to his task well out in Trap 5 to book a place in the draw for the semi-finals.

6-2-5 Havana Lover (33.45) 30/100F, Caumrie Lemon 5/1, Dazl Omega 12/1

Heat 3

Another favourite to make no mistake in Round 1 was Laughil Jess for local trainer, David Lee. After flying out of the traps in the red jacket, the white and black bitch was untroubled as Coonough Crow closed a little and Naney Jezabelle hung on for 3rd.

1-2-6 Laughil Jess (33.60) 3/10F, Coonough Crow 9/2, Naney Jezabelle 8/1

Winning Trainer David Lee (Crayford)

Heat 4

Moaning Rossi’s draw in Trap 1 was the chief talking point going into Heat 4 with plenty of ‘middle to rails’ comments in his form lines. Dapper Mac and Makeit Magical were able to clear the field going in to the first bend and just as well as the favourite, Moaning Rossi drifted wide around the first two bends and took most of the field wide with him. Despite disputing the lead to the third bend, Makeit Magical was unable to see the trip out and finished last of all. Back on his correct running line, Moaning Rossi closed to within 2 3/4 lengths of the winner, ahead of the veteran Warzone Tom, who showed his class in a battling performance to close in on another Category 1 final.

3-1-5 Dapper Mac (33.57) 3/1, Moaning Rossi 5/4F, Warzone Tom 2/1

Winning Trainer: A Slater

Heat 5

In the slowest of the 6 heats, Dazl Rolex got up on the line to pick up the long time leader Bolt of Wisdom by 1/2 length. The 11/10 favourite, Fabulous Sonique, completely missed the break and found no luck in running after that. An Empress Stakes finalist, Fabulous Sonique, was clearly the fastest dog in the race but could find no way through, managing only 5th place. 16/1 outsider Harehareherechoo ran gamely on for a comfortable third place and will be in the hat for the semi-finals.

4-6-3 Dazl Rolex (33.71) 9/4, Bolt of Wisdom 6/1, Harehareherechoo 16/1

Winning Trainer: Ricky Holloway (Crayford)

Heat 6

Empress Stakes third, Minnie Bullet, took on Produce Stakes fifth, King Ezra, in the final heat of today’s Gold Collar with the former defeating the latter by 1 1/2 lengths. Mark Wallis’ January 21 bitch overhauled Billis Blazer around half-way before pulling clear and staying on well ahead of King Ezra who ran on. Gutsy Jet ran on into 3rd after picking up Billis Blazer on the run-in.

3-1-4 Minnie Bullet (33.49) 3/1, King Ezra 11/10F, Gutsy Jet 12/1

Winning Trainer: Kevin Boon (Suffolk Downs)
