Churchfield Syd looks to be the greyhound to beat heading into next week’s Ladbrokes Gold Cup final following another eye-catching victory at Monmore Green.
The Richard Rees wide runner – who has enjoyed lots of success at the Wolverhampton track in the past – again clocked the quickest time of the night in the four-bend competition, winning in 28.09secs on -20 going.
Nathan Hunt’s Cooladerry Dust was superb once more in the Summer Stayers Classic, triumphing in 37.77secs ahead of Belinda Green’s Baywatch Bullet in the second semi-final.
Liz McNair’s Queen Georgia later put in exactly the same time as Dust, on another of the evening’s standout performances.
The first semi-final of the Gold Cup saw Kevin Hutton’s Antigua Eagle – who reached the Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby showpiece back in March at Monmore when known as Omuircheartaigh – run out victorious ahead of Tom Heilbron’s Untold Euro.
Droopys Clue (Seamus Cahill) then booked his place in the final of the Summer Stayers but had to settle for second place behind Mark Wallis’ Coonough Crow, who finished superbly to take the spoils.
Churchfield Syd held off a game Seaview Sydney (Hunt) to win race five while Dust shone in the sixth.
Hunt had another winner in the third Gold Cup semi-final as the quick-away Cunnigar Yousir got the better of Ballymac John.
Queen Georgia was joined by Diane Henry’s Savana Jackpot in advancing from the third semi-final in the Summer Stayers.
