Track records tumble at Oxford and Central Park

David Mullins followed up last year’s BGBF Puppy Cup victory with a repeat on Saturday as Romeo Cypher broke the clock in this season’s Cat 1 curtain raiser at Oxford.

David Mullins followed up last year’s BGBF Puppy Cup victory with a repeat on Saturday as Romeo Cypher broke the clock in this season’s Cat 1 curtain raiser at Oxford.

Drawn in Trap 2, Mullins’ white and black dog by Droopys Sydney, out of Fabulous Skylar, pinged the lids and showed great early pace once again to turn in first. Phil Milner’s Keefill Maverick, who never gave up the chase on Cypher (4 months his senior), showed his potential as he never let the gap grow any wider than the 3 lengths that Cypher had picked up down the back straight and was perhaps even gaining a little as they crossed the line.

Maverick’s ‘wingman’ Keefill Goose followed his brother home in third with a strong railing performance out of the inside box.

Romeo Cypher’s 26.47 knocked two spots off Coolavanny Shado’s previous record of 26.49 clocked in 2023.

Mark Wallis claimed his first Category 1 title of the year as Garfiney Blaze made all to win the Cesarewitch at Central Park for the MWD Partnership. Blaze broke his own track record in the process, heading Ballymac Taylor who was doing her usual late charge.
