In this week’s column we focus on some youngsters that have just begun their Journeys.
??Skyfall Ginger aiming for the stars ??
Having watched a few of her races, she’s definitely caught the eye of many who watch the graded scene.
Skyfall Ginger, the brindle bitch bred out of “Kilara Icon and El Nora” on 10th April 2022, is just 20 months and already she is flying through the grades at Monmore Green for trainer Paul Sallis.
Starting her career with some trials, she recorded a 15.89 in her first sprint. Following on from that, she went on to have 3 480m trials, averaging 29.20.
Her first outing was in an A6, where she went off 9/4f. She trapped smartly doing a 4.47 sectional and leading all the way, posting a PB time of 29.00.
Averaging around 31.5-32kg, she’s certainly a nice stamp of a pup.
After winning her A6 race. she was upgraded to A5 grade, and on the third try took the victory. Again posting a nice 4.47 split, and doing another PB time of 28.85!
Ginger was then swiftly upgraded again in to A4. This time, on the 6th time of asking, she went on to take her self another win, doing another PB all round with a 4.39 split and a very impressive 28.52.
She was then put further in at the deep end when she was upgraded into A2. She placed 5th, running a great race and leading all the way until the run in.
She then stayed in A2 grade for her next race which she proceeded to win ?!! Ginger now competes at the top level graded in A1. Ginger came 4th in her first ever top level grade race, leading all the way to the 3rd bend.
A quote from theSkyfall Kennels
“Ginger is the quickest trapper out of the litter. Her name definitely suits her as-well. She’s feisty, loves bacon, and grumpy when she has to share the bed. She’s a playful girl at the kennels, loves a fuss and a cuddle.
Ginger has worked her way up the grades and being a home bred girl we are extremely proud of not just her, but the whole litter. They have all won a race and give it 110% every time.”
Good luck to all connections with Ginger for the future.
?? Blue Beauty Ballymac Madgie ??
Now here we have a stunning young blue pup, Ballymac Madgie, bred out of “Ballymac Cooper and Ballymac Arminga”
Ballymac Madgie, or “May” as she goes by at the kennels is trained by Shaun Gresham and his wife Chris Gresham.
May was brought online from the September Greyhound Traderauction sales. Only a July ’22pup, she’s still only 17 months old.
May is owned by, Shaun Gresham and Gaz Williams and she is certainly doing them proud in such a short space of time.
May started off with a couple of trials at Swindon Greyhounds with a sprint trial, followed by 3x 467m trials – posting an average of 29.10.
Debuting in her first race on 2nd November, she went into an A4, placing 3rd in her first race beaten only 1 length.
Her next outing was on the 9th November, where she got her first win ?. Leading from the second bend, she posted a 4.18 split and a PB time of 28.50.
May was stepped up to the Blunsdon Maiden Open Race and placed a very respectable 2nd beaten by a neck after some crowding and then staying on strong.
Since then she had 2 more Open Races. The first was at Towcester where she placed 4th and doing a 29.80.
Then on the14th December, her most recent outing (in another Blunsdon Maiden OR), May went on to win ?! She led until taking a bump at the first bend before staying on well and leading on the run-in to get the win.
Speaking with Shaun, he says
“We brought May from the online auction based on her breeding alone, she was unraced when we brought her.”
“She’s a nice size bitch around 29.5kg, she’s great in the kennels, she eats well and is clean.”
“We think the secret to her settling in so well is the gravy bones ?, I don’t think my life would be worth living without them in my pockets for her.”
“We’re hoping May will break into season as we don’t really want to race her much during the winter, but the plan will be now to enter her for some Puppy opens.”
“Fingers crossed for her future with us and especially next year, I think within time May will make it as a stayer.”
Good luck to all connections with May for the future.
