On this week’s graded scene, I’m going with a golden oldie special!! Highlighting a couple of greyhounds that are on the senior side but still thriving in their careers.

Can’t teach an old dog new tricks?!

In these cases, you don’t have too!!

Kilara Bugle is a dog bred out of the well known “Kinloch Brae and Tyrur Fergie.” He was whelped on the “22nd April 2017”, yes that’s right, 2017!!

Bugle is currently heading towards 7 years of age and is still competing at a higher level of graded racing in A2 at Doncaster.

The Black dog, who’s currently trained by James Johnstone has run at a persistent top level throughout his career.

Starting off his career in Ireland where he had just the 5 races, winning 1 of them at Clonmel, he soon found his paws on the other side of the water, when he arrived at Doncaster.

He started off his British career with Alex Hopkins at Doncaster, after numerous races and successes, he changed trainer to Sue Watson who went on to have him from August 2020 through to September 2023 when he moved to his current trainer (above).

Bugle has currently had 167 races, winning 43 times , placing second 40 times and third 31 times!! That’s over a 25% win percentage and a 68.26% top 3 finish percentage which is outstanding!

Owners of Kilara Bugle are The Donny Boys and it must be a fantastic feeling owning a greyhound who’s won OR, A1,A2,A3 all throughout his career.

Bugle’s latest win comes on the 22nd of October when winning an A2 by 1/2L leading all the way.

??Golden Oldie 2??

Glenmore Phantom, bred by the well known Azza Azza Azza and Yahoo Kim on the “25th April 2017″ is another fantastic 2017 whelp who’s still actively running and loving his career.

Glenmore Phantom, also known by his pet name “Tom”, is heading towards 7 years of age and currently competes at the higher side of grading, currently averaging A3-A5

He has spent his whole Career with trainer Terry Munslow at Nottingham stadium.

“Tom” Currently stands at a whopping (and I must say impressive) 202 races (as of 30/11/23), winning over 3 competitive distances of 305mtrs, 480mtrs and 500mtrs!

He has won 44 races, come second 42 times and third 38 times. That’s an impressive 60% top 3 placement ratio and a 21.2% win ratio.

Absolutely thriving still in his career, owners Mr G S Chambers & Mr J R Harrison must be extremely proud of him aswell as trainer Terry.

Tom came in to us an unraced pup through Lawrence Tuffin who had 5 in their litter.
We’ve been Really lucky as he’s been a very consistent grader for us.

“Still running in the same grade with his early pace. His stats say it all, and he Enjoys every minute of it.

“Potentially after the new year, Tom will retire and find his forever home which is truly well deserved.”

?Retired Golden Oldies ?

After writing about a couple of the fantastic Golden Oldies who are still thriving in their career, I thought we would include a section on a special few “Retired Golden Oldies,” some who have a home, and some who are in search of their forever home.

“Ballymac Meg

A white & fawn stunning girl out of “Ballymac Matt” and “Coyote Queen” who was whelped on 1st August 2017, she will be turning 7 years old next year.

Meg has captured the hearts of a lot people. She is a regular at the tracks still. Enjoying her meet and greets to highlight how amazing these Greyhounds are as pets.

Her owner Denise Ryan says,

“The day I brought Meg home, she came in and laid down, you would never have thought she had just come out of the kennels.

“She really is the dream dog.

“She has her favourite treats, chicken nuggets being a favourite of hers, along with meaty bites and baby milk.

“We also enjoy a hot chocolate before bed together.”

Meg ran a total of 52 races, winning 10 of them, coming second 4 times and third 9 times, that’s a whopping 44.23% top 3 placement percentage. Well done Meg!!

Meg has appeared at Romford Stadium and Crayford stadium so far with her meet and greets, she enjoyed watching the racing, showing her excitement and remembering the thrill she used to have when running.

Meg will be a regular feature on the column and will take you with her on her travels as well as highlight a retired greyhound per week who’s looking for their forever home

Next week we will be taking a look at some young and upcoming pups

I hope you all enjoyed the read of these special Golden Oldies!
