The Tote will be the place to bet for greyhound punters during the Star Sports/TRC English Greyhound Derby with news of a huge reduction in the takeout rates.
Normally set at 29.9% across all pools, we can announce that for win and place markets, the takeout will be sliced to just 10% with forecast and tricast markets cut in half, down to 15%. There will also be further Tote markets to be announced at a later date.
Such an enormous cut in the rate will provide hugely tempting markets for fans of greyhound racing both new and old with pools expected to swell.
Advantage
Bettors both on and off track can take advantage of the reduction.
The Irish Derby last year saw a spike in business when The Tote reduced their rate to 12.5% at Shelbourne so, at just 10%, Towcester are providing greyhound bettors with even greater value throughout the Derby.
This move to boost the pools will add to the excitement of what is always a sensational six weeks.
The competition starts on Thursday, May 8 and runs until the Grand Final on Saturday, June 14.
Clear winner
Ben Keith, owner of Star Sports said: “Greyhound racing is a clear winner with a low retention Tote.
“More people will be interested in the Derby because of this and that will see bigger attendances and more engagement.
“A strong betting market through the Tote will drive participation and value across all betting markets.”
Kevin Boothby of Towcester Racecourse said: “This really is the game changer in betting that greyhound racing needs.
“A vibrant and successful Tote with a low deduction is the very essence of giving punters value. 10% is unheard of.
“Nowhere else will the betting public be able to get this sort of deal at either greyhound racing or horse racing in the UK.”
